Hot headed, speaks before he thinks, always ready for action (especially when waiting would be best), Zak is a teenager (17). He is also a Zealot; a sympathiser with the Jewish political party openly advocating the physical overthrow of the Romans. Zak wants the Romans out of Judea and he wants them out yesterday. Zak is a constant challenge for Ben, who sees great promise in the boy, if he could just get the kid to put away his sword. But Ben also depends on Zak’s speed, wits and strength to keep things moving on the underground. No one is quicker to volunteer for a dangerous assignment than young Zak. Though he’s in no hurry to die, he’d lay down his life for the cause in an instant.
Zak frequently finds the children to be trying, but when push comes to shove, he’s always ready to protect and guide them. Although he usually hides behind his tough-guy image, Zak is a warm-hearted young man, with a growing sense of humour. Ben is his mentor.
